My cross cultural experience:
Fall of 2006 I made my way to Italy and Switzerland for the semester to fulfill my cross cultural requirements. WOW. It is so hard to describe my experience in full. The only way I could, is if you were there with me! You weren’t though. And that’s OK. I can only hope that one day you get to go somewhere at least HALF as cool as Europe. I learned, I explored, I had a blast. You will hear the same thing from everyone! They learned so much, they made friends with people they never thought they would, and they would do it again in an instant. Repetitive? Redundant? Maybe so, but ENTIRELY TRUE! Honestly, I was intimidated about the cross cultural program here at EMU. I mean, come on, you HAVE to leave for an entire semester?! When it was all said and done, though, I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. It truly is life changing!
My favorite intramural season:
MMmmmMMmmm… floor hockey BY FAR! Being Canadian, I have a special place in my heart for all things… well.. remotely Canadian! And I am proud to claim hockey as my nation’s sport. While I don’t claim to be particularly gifted in the sport, I do get a high off of the energy and good sportsmanship seen when we play this fun sport. COME PLAY!
My favorite residence hall:
My first 2 years were spent in Maplewood where i had an AMAZING time… “The Woods”, as we call them here, are three dorms with a playing field in the middle where you can chill, play, WHATEVER! It is such a central location on campus for all things fun, and a great way to get you college socializing career started!
My favorite campus activity:
hmmm it’s a toss up between intramurals and campus movies. I mean intramurals are super fun: a little exercize, a lot of healthy competition, but campus movies are cheap, usually good movies, and nice a event for a weekend night when you don’t know what else to do!
My favorite class at EMU (and why):
Well… I think I would have to say my upper level biology courses. Nerdy, I know, but I can’t hide the fact that I like the stuff I’m learning, and it helps having a prof who teaches the way I learn, and tests me to my limits!
My favorite EMU memory so far:
So far my favorite EMU memory is a combination of the times I spent with the people I’ve met here. I’ve made outstanding friends – ones that I hope will stay with my for many years beyond graduation.
My favorite reason to get off campus:
My favorite reason to get off campus is to explore the city in which I now live! Campus is small (which is nice, most of the time), and every once and a while it is nice to get away; to see other sites, to have the opportunity to explore the beauty of the area around me.
The most surprising thing about EMU:
Is the diversity! With a small school, labeled as Mennonite, it would be assumed that the student body was… well… Mennonite! Buuuut, that is not necessarily the case. Although the school provides education from a Mennonite perspective, it is certainly not a requirement to be Mennonite, and that’s obvious from our student body. People from all across the world, from various religious backgrounds come to EMU and make for a diverse environment for you to learn in!
