My favorite class at EMU (and why):
That’s currently a tie and I’m sure it will change from semester to semester! But right now I’m enjoying both Ceramics and Ethics in the Way of Jesus very much.
Ceramics is my artsy and hands on class. It is a great destresser (not that it isn’t frustrating sometimes) and the teacher, Craig Owens, really let us dive right in and start wheel-throwing skill building on day one. I’m getting more clay experience than I’ve ever had and having a blast.
Ethics with Peter Dula is completely different. It’s a challenging class with lots of reading and it happens to be my first bible class ever, b/c I’ve always gone to a public school. It’s proving to be quite enjoyable though because the reading, though challenging, is quite good and makes me think about things I’ve never needed to before. I’m enjoying having a very intellectual/philosophical class :)
My favorite reason to get off campus:
I love biking downtown (only about 8 minutes away) to walk around the square visiting all the cool shops. The Ten-Thousand Villages-esque Laughing Dog store is a highlight along with a knit shop, art gallery, and bike shop. Then, to top it off, there is an almost impossible decision to make about whether to have Greek, Ethiopian, or Jess’s Diner food for supper. Or maybe I just end up having amazing tea and a wrap or scone at Earth Tea Cafe. It’s pretty much amazing.
My favorite campus activity:
Well…there are new ones every weekend, so it’s kind of hard to tell! However, a recent activity planned by CAC (campus activities council), called ‘Mission Impossible’ was ridiculously fun. The goal was to get stamps from certain places on campus with a team of your friends without getting caught…and it was dark. My team had a blast, dressing entirely in black (longsleeves and pants despite the warm night!) and doing stealth crawls, sprinting and rolling around the campus. It was hilarious. And we came in second to recieve $5 gift cards to Common Grounds Coffee shop :D
The more regular activities are movies and intramurals of which I enjoy inramurals the most. They are fun, fairly low pressure, though super competetive at the same time, and you get to meet lots of people!
