How important is spiritual development?
As important as students’ academic and social pursuits. EMU is a caring community of students and faculty who help students stretch as people and grow as Christians.
Who offers spiritual guidance?
EMU’s campus pastors engage students in conversation, counseling, support, prayer and mentor students in leadership development. Pastoral assistants encourage and develop ministries on campus and provide guidance and support for ministry assistants. Each ministry assistant facilitates small group interaction, prayer support and Bible study on each residence hall. Spiritual Life Weeks and other spiritual formation events are held on campus each semester. Campus Ministries encourages participation in local congregations as well.
Campus Pastors:

What worship and outreach activities are available?
In addition to chapel, many students gather on Sunday evenings for a student-led worship service called Celebration. Outreach ministries, including spring break Y-trips, are coordinated by the Young People’s Christian Association (YPCA), with support from the campus ministries office. Many other small group worship and outreach activities emerge with student leadership.
Is chapel required?
Chapel services are held Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. Chapel is not required but participation is expected. Student participation in chapel as leaders and worshipers is highly valued and encouraged. It is what makes chapel so meaningful at EMU.
