Jerry Holsopple, PhD., visual and communication arts professor at EMU, will be the plenary speaker on the theme Anabaptism in Visual Age. Holsopple is an artist, photographer and renowned videographer, who teaches photography and digital media-related courses. He spent the 2009-2010 academic year as a Fulbright scholar at LCC International University in Lithuania, has led numerous cross-cultural photography experiences and has won dozens of awards in recognition of his video, public service announcements, and websites.
A Friday evening conference banquet will feature Ted Swartz, of Ted & Company Theaterworks, on his book in progress, Laughter Is Sacred Space: The Not-so-typical Journey of a Mennonite Actor (expected release by Herald Press, spring, 2012).
Conference breakout sessions and off site visits will include:
- Gravity Group, a Harrisonburg-based marketing consultant group that has worked extensively with EMU
- MennoMedia’s Harrisonburg headquarters
- Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center
- headquarters of Rosetta Stone langugage-learning software.
Saturday morning will provide opportunity for viewing the new Third Way Media documentary Waging Peace and guided conversations with affinity groups (web,graphic design, writers/editors, administrators, videographers, etc).

Discounts: For organizations who would like to send multiple members, after four individuals from one organization have paid the full rate, each additional member is $100.

Meals will be in the EMU dining hall. Friday night’s banquet will be catered in the Eastern Mennonite Seminary Martin Chapel. Friday lunch, the Friday banquet and Saturday continental braekfast as well as coffee breaks are included in the registration fee. Breakfast on Friday and lunch on Saturday are on your own.
Planning committee members include EMU Marketing/Communications staff Andrea Schrock Wenger (chair), Bonnie Price Lofton and Heidi Muller as well as Holsopple. Off-campus committee members include Jon Trotter (Virginia Mennonite Conference and Anabaptist Communicators board member) as well as a representative from MennoMedia (Sheri Hartzler). Additionally, a number of local folks with long-time ties to Anabaptist Communicators will offer input and suggestions as planning progresses.
