Virginia State Division II/III Cross Country Championship Meet

Location and Directions: The meet will be held at the Peak View Cross Country Course at the Burtner Farm in Penn Laird, VA. From the west, follow I-81 to Exit 247A; follow Route 33 east 4.8 miles from the interstate to Lawyers Rd. Turn right between an Exxon station and a 7/11 convenience store and travel .5 mile; look for Peak View Elementary School on the left and park here. From the east, follow Route 33 west from Ruckersville (route 29); about 10 miles west of Elkton, turn left on Lawyers Rd. between an Exxon station and a 7/11 convenience store. The Peak View Elementary School is .5 mile south on Lawyer Rd. on the left.

Race Times: Open 6 km Race (for unattached runners, coaches, parents, etc.) at 9:30 AM; College Women’s Race (6km) at 10:30 AM, College Men’s Race (8 km) at 11:15 AM; awards immediately following.

Entries: $60.00 per team for the college races (or $100.00 for both men and women); $5.00 per individual for Open Race or non-team college entries. Unlimited number for college team rosters. ENTRIES DUE FRIDAY, OCT. 1. Make checks payable to Eastern Mennonite University. Make additional copies of the Open Race entry form if desired.

Awards: All State College Race awards to top 14 individuals, and top two teams. Open Race awards to top three open male and open female, and top three Under 16 male and female.

Course: Mowed grass field path with rolling hills and turns; 3-5 paved crossovers; spikes recommended, particularly if wet. Course tours will be self-directed using a map; an EMU representative will be available to answer questions. The course will also be available for viewing from 3 to 6 PM Friday, Oct. 8.

Facilities: Portable Toilets will be available. There are no dressing or locker facilities available at the course. Teams may return to Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg (10 miles away) for showers if desired. Please bring your own towels.

Accommodations: Chain hotels and restaurants are located at the Exit 247 I-81 interchange 5 miles from the course. A listing is enclosed.

Results: Results will be available approximately 30 minutes after each race. Open Race results will be posted; Printed College Race results will be distributed to coaches. Results will also be available by Sunday, Oct. 10 at www.emu.edu/athletics.

Suggestions for Coaches: Bring a stocked training kit. Bring umbrellas (limited shelter available for inclement weather); if wet, bring field shoes or walking boots; no mountain bikes permitted on the course; BRING BINOCULARS FOR BEST VIEWING, and tell parents traveling with your team to do the same.

Should you want to preview the course, you may run out at Peak View any weekday AFTER 3:30 P.M. Please do not be on the school grounds before 3:30 p.m. Also, please do not permit your athletes to enter the school building to find restrooms. EVEN IF THE DOORS ARE OPEN. There are portable toilets by the barn for runners.
