Barry Claims Western Division Rookie Of The Week
Eastern Mennonite men's volleyball setter John Barry (Worthington, Oh./Worthington Kilbourne) has been named North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Western Division Rookie of the Week for Mar. 15-21. The freshman averaged 11.5 assists per set over the Royals' four matches, totaling 138 handouts in 12 sets.

In the three matches where Barry played regularly (excluding the sweep of Washington Adventist), he averaged 12.2 assists per set. He had 48 assists and three block assists in the four-set loss to Philadelphia Biblical. Barry also averaged 13.0 assists in the 3-0 sweep of Lees-McRae. The setter added seven kills during the week, including four in just seven attempts against Mount Olive.

Eastern Mennonite is currently 10-13 overall including 4-2 in NECVA play. The Royals participate in the Western Division Tournament this weekend in Langhorne, Pa. They open tourney play against Nazareth at 7:00pm on Friday, Mar. 26. EMU will also play at least one more match on Saturday. If the men win their first two contests, they will advance to the championship match and automatically qualify for the 16-team NECVA Tournament on Apr. 9-11.
