"Collecting and
analyzing data over
two years has been
an amazing learning
experience; it was
especially exciting when
I found statistically
significant results."
Rebecca Drooger, Class of 2007
Major: biology, minors: Spanish, chemistry
Career goal: physician in Spanish-speaking community
Rebecca's research on the effects of plant-based estrogen on mice could have implications for broader cancer research. She worked in close consultation with Dr. Roman Miller — a typical model of hands-on research for pre-professional students at EMU.
Biology studies at our Christian liberal arts college are steeped in the peace tradition of the Mennonite church and committed to sustainability, community and service to others.

Our program ...
People interested in biology are interested in life. Humans, animals, forests, streams and soil become subjects of concern and fascination.
At EMU you'll work side by side with others who share your interest as you conduct experiments, analyze data, study diagrams, debate issues, take field trips and even perform original research.
Biology is one of the largest majors at EMU. The program has an excellent reputation, and its graduates are sought by graduate schools and employers.
You'll find that EMU's size means ready access to equipment and individual instruction. The professors help you develop skills in scientific interpretation and an awareness of the ethical issues which surround science. They emphasize the harmony between the natural world and God's Word.
