DO Plus MD: Coexisting Philosophies in a Shifting Landscape

Madhur D. Solanki, O.D.
Madhur D. Solanki, O.D.

Over the past 114 years Osteopathic Medicine has grown from a curiosity that was often ignored or attacked, to a major force in the American healthcare system. There has been a struggle to maintain the identity and practices that define Osteopathic Medicine as it has grown as a profession.

As a DO who has done an Allopathic Family Medicine residency Dr Solanki is a hybrid of the two traditions of medicine. He will discuss how his evolution as a Physician reflects the changes shaping Osteopathic Medicine.

About the Presenter

Madhur D. Solanki, O.D.

Dr. Solanki graduated from EMU in 1993 with a biology degree.  After a short stint as a phlebotomist, he completed clinical training at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Medical Technology and then worked as a medical technologist for 3 years.  Subsequently, he attended and graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV.  After completing training in an allopathic program, Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency Program, he worked at Berryville Medical Associates for 2 years as a small town doctor.

Later he became a hospitalist at Winchester Medical Center (WMC) and a founding partner of Valley Hospitalists. The Valley Hospitalists provide inpatient care to all adult patients who do not have a physician at WMC and manage the daily care of 80-90 inpatients.

Madhur lives in Berryville Virginia with his wife, Maryam, and their two sons. Rohan (2 ½ years old) who likes to repeat EVERY phrase he hears and Arman (11 months old) who likes to taste EVERY thing he can get his little hands on.
