Spring Time and Soccer Season

March 26th, 2008

Well, its that time of year again - where trees and flowers are blooming, the grass seems greener, the weather is warmer (except for random snow flurries?), and soccer season begins.

Last week I began to practice with some of the EMU women’s soccer team. Its definitely different from my past teams, but as far as I can tell, not crazy competitive (to the point where team members are mean to each other), which is a really good thing. I’m still working on names, but I’m sure I will know most of them by the end of next week, along with having a better understanding of how they play.

Playing out on the field with all the girls is a lot of fun, yet an amazing learning experience at the same time. Last Monday we scrimmaged and I was pleasantly surprised at the type of game the coach (Holly Hall) enforced and encouraged. I am definitely enjoying it, and benefiting from both the practices and the intramural games I take part in. As a result of the extraneous soccer schedule, I often find myself NOT procrastinating because I have a very limited amount of time to do my work - a very good thing for people like me who often find they have too much time on their hands (and end up wasting most of it).

Right now the workload isn’t too bad, but if you look ahead, you can see the slowly accelerating increase of homework and projects that leads to the end of the semester and finals week. A way that my sister has found to help organize this chaos, is by writing down all of the work that she needs to get done before finals week, and it looks like as long as she doesn’t procrastinate she will have it all under her belt soon enough. As for me, I have finally begun to keep a calendar of when my work is due, so I have an idea of the progress that I need to make in order to turn in something I’m proud of.

And on that note I leave you with a happy farewell and wishing you the best of days (not to mention a marvelously warm one here) as I head to class.
