Psychosocial Trauma
Welcome to the psychosocial trauma website at EMU’s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding.
Dr. Barry Hart, Academic Director, Professor of Trauma, Identity, and Conflict Studies
What is psychosocial trauma?
Trauma can result when people experience or witness an event involving actual or threatened death, serious injury or threat. Psychosocial trauma enables individuals and communities to recognize the patterns of trauma and to deal with issues of justice, safety/security and peace/recovery in order to prevent additional trauma.
At the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding (CJP), psychosocial trauma awareness and healing is combined with training in peacebuilding, restorative justice, self-care,conflict transformation, community development, and leadership to create a renown integrated model of individual and community restoration.
What is the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding?
The Center for Justice and Peacebuilding (CJP) was one of the first programs at a North American university to offer an M.A. in the conflict and peacebuilding field and is regarded as one of the best peacebuilding programs in the world. CJP offers graduate studies as well as many professional development opportunities.
