About SPI: the Summer Peacebuilding Institute
For over 15 years, SPI has offered a program where people working for peace can reflect, gain new skills, read new theories, and share experiences. SPI is a place to meet interesting people from all over the world – some who are kindred spirits and some who think very differently than you do. Experience being supported and challenged, encounter someone you didn’t know was out there, or find someone inside yourself you haven’t paid attention to lately! Participating in SPI is an opening to the unexpected and a re-affirmation of what is important.
SPI 2012 has some familiar courses, but also some new ones:
- Community Organizing in the 21st Century
- Nonviolent Social Movements
- Designing Restorative Approaches to Complex Crime and Violation
- Healing the Wounds of History: Peacebuilding through Transformative Theater
- Humanitarian Action in Conflict and Complex Emergencies
SPI is an opportunity for stimulation, deep reflection, careful analysis, conversations over coffee, laughter, volleyball, and potluck meals.
