Active Shooter Training

Unfortunately, the reality of our world is that schools and college campuses need to prepare for the unlikely incidence of an active shooter on campus. The Crisis Management Preparedness Team will plan an active shooter training and/or drill annually.

A variety of online training resources are available.

CMPT recommends that EMU campus community members view the five-minute video “Run, Hide, Fight: Surviving and Active Shooter Event.”. The video was prepared under the Urban Area Security Initiative grant program from the United States Department of Homeland Security.

The University of Georgia’s Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness has posted materials specifically for college campus review. This includes a video and active shooter handouts..

Faculty and/or residence life staff will be asked to review active shooter material with students as part of any announced drill. Discussion about how the recommendations may be implemented or adjusted for the EMU environment will follow review.
