CHINA - May 2008
China through American Eyes
From an ancient world civilization to an emerging superpower, China offers much to discover. The city of Chengdu, located in beautiful Sichuan, a southwest province in China, centers our experience. Students will have one week to visit historic, religious, and breathtaking places in Sichuan, such as Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong, known as the Fairyland in the world; Mt Emei and Leshan, a Buddhist holy site; Dujiangyan, the earliest human irrigation project; Mt Qingcheng, the Taoist holy site; the Chinese main Panda base; Sanxingdui, one of the cradles of Chinese civilization.
Students will spend two weeks in the College of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Chengdu University of Technology learning basic Chinese language skills, Chinese culture, Chinese calligraphy, Taiji, Kongfu, and Sichuan cuisine. Students will have opportunities to stay with Chinese families to learn Chinese daily life. We will worship with Chinese Christians and share in their amazing stories of growth through faith.
Note: Depending on how crowded it is in Beijing in May due to the 2008 China Summer Olympics, students may have the opportunity to visit Beijing for three days to discover the famous Great Wall, Ming Tomb, and Forbidden City. If we cannot travel to Beijing, we will adjust the itinerary accordingly.
