Through a grant from the United States Institute of Peace, STAR has developed training and resource materials to help address trauma and cycles of violence in young people’s lives.

When Violence and Trauma Impact Youth: Parent Guide

A 16-page easy-to-read resource which instructs parents and youth caregivers in the following topics: trauma, the impact of trauma on learning, behavior, and relationships, supporting youth in healing and building resilience, helping youth manage feelings, communicating with youth, supporting youth dealing with conflicts.

When Violence and Trauma Impact Youth: Youth Handbook

A 45-page easy-to-read resource for youth that highlights the following topics: what is trauma, how does trauma effect us, what happens when we ignore trauma, making healthy choices after trauma, working at healing after trauma and/or injustice, conflict resolution and communication skills.

When Violence and Trauma Impact Youth: Facilitator’s Training Manual

A 195-page training manual provided to participants attending Youth STAR training. The curriculum is filled with exercises and activities easily replicated when working with youth. The training and complementary manual provide hands-on tools to lead dynamic, interactive sessions with youth in the areas of trauma, violence, and conflict resolution.

A 75-page resource guide that goes into more depth of the theories and research behind trauma work with youth, breaking cycles of violence, restorative justice practices, and conflict resolution with youth.
