"Pray the Devil Back to Hell" documentary and discussion with Leymah Gbowee
An ordinary woman became an extraordinary leader in confronting violence to end Liberia's civil war.
They won a long-awaited peace for their shattered country in 2003. A leader in Liberia, Leymah Gbowee organized hundreds of women to protest the civil war. In the middle of her campaign she attended EMU's Summer Peacebuilding Institute. Later, she earned her MA in Conflict Transformation from EMU's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, graduating in 2007. She now heads Women Peace and Security Network in Ghana, offering training and counsel to women all over Africa. She recently shared her story on television with Stephen Colbert and Bill Moyers. Viewing of the documentary begins at 7 p.m., followed by a timeof personal reflection and a talk-back session with Leymah from 8:15-9 p.m. This documentary does show some explicit violence and is not recommended for children under age 12. |
