Capstone presentation: “Decoding the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policies
of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)”
Policies impact the lives of individuals and whole communities. Policies aren’t neutral in their content but reflect the involvement of stakeholders in the process, the policy-makers assumptions, and the broader context of the policy. The theme and content of certain policies can be culturally sensitive in nature, such as gender equality policies (even more so if policies are crafted at an international level between donors and developing countries receiving investment).
For her thesis, Sandra analyzed the content and discourse of policies. The policies studied were gender equality and women’s empowerment policies of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an organization where member countries meet in forum to discuss “Better Policies for Better Lives.” The main goal was to find out how gender equality is proposed to be achieved and what understandings lies behind the concepts. You are invited to this presentation where Sandra will present her findings from her thesis research.
