Shenandoah Valley Youth Orchestra Concert

The concert will feature talented teen musicians in a variety of musical ensembles.
Then Junior Strings ensemble, under the direction of Sharon Miller, will play a classical selections by Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky and an Irish tune. This intermediate-level group has nine members from Augusta, Rockingham, and Page counties.
Next the 40-member Youth Orchestra with students from Rockingham, Augusta, Shenandoah, and Page counties as well as West Virginia will perform. This auditioned group, conducted by Maria Lorcas, will perform one movement from the “Concerto for Violin No. 3” by Mozart featuring Daniel Roth, one movement from the “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Kabelvsky featuring Evan White, “March Slave” by Tchaikovsky and “West Side Story Selections for Orchestra” by Bernstein.
The evening’s featured soloists are Daniel Roth, violin, and Evan White, piano. Daniel is the son of Ken and Terri Roth. A senior at Harrisonburg High School, he has been chosen by audition for Senior Regional Orchestra and participates in the Spring String Thing at JMU. He has been a member of the Youth Orchestra for six years, and he is currently a co-concertmaster. He has studied violin with Maria Lorcas and Dr. Joan Griffing at EMU.
Evan White is the daughter of Jack Butt and Julia White. A senior at Eastern Mennonite High School, she is a member of the Touring Choir and Orchestra. She has been a member of the Youth Orchestra for five years in the percussion section. She has studied piano with Dr. Lynne Mackey at EMU and is currently studying with Dr. Eric Ruple at JMU.
A five-dollar donation is requested at the door to assist in the operation of these groups.
The Shenandoah Valley Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings ensemble are part of Eastern Mennonite University’s Shenandoah Valley Preparatory Music Program.
