Here's to You

“Rascal Flatts is going to be in Virginia Beach!” That was what my voicemail screamed at me from one of my friends a month before school started.

How exciting was that, Rascal Flatts, a famous country group, being 4 hours away from where we go to school! I had to go see them. We got eight of our other friends together and bought our tickets and were ready to go have a good time at the concert.

This was going to be great!

After a few weeks of getting back into the routine of school, the day came when it was time to go see them. After hours of planning out our outfits and figuring out what all to take and finding directions that would be the fastest way to get there, we were ready to head out.

Heading Out Early

Five of us decided to skip our last class of the day and head out early so we could go save seats. The other car load left an hour after we did. What was supposed to be a four hour car ride turned into a five and a half-stuck in traffic-getting sick of sitting in a car-ready to be there ride.

When we arrived the opening act was already onstage and singing because we were an hour late. We went in to find that our lawn seating was exactly that, a huge lawn where we had to find a place to sit. We found a spot way in the back (since everyone else at the concert had left earlier and missed the traffic), and waited for our other friends to arrive.

They came, just in time, as Rascal Flatts was coming out on stage. Though we could barely see the stage and were as far back as we could possibly get, we had a great time. The last song they sang was meant for us, at least we tell ourselves that.

They got three in the front and four in the back of a civic,
Camped out all night on the sidewalk just to get tickets,
And they come from miles around,
For that moment when the lights go out,
And they scream,
It's the girls in the front row singin',
It's the boys with the wheels that bring them,
Its lighters in the air and you guys up there,
You're the heart and soul and the reason we do what we do,
Here's to you!

Finally after our quick stop to Taco Bell at 12 a.m., we arrived back to college at 4in the morning. Was it worth driving nine hours to see a two and a half hour show just to sit in the back and not be able to see the stage?

Definitely.

be you
