I woke up this morning a few minutes before my alarm clock, which is usually a good indicator that I am well rested. After reveling in the comfort of my bed for a few minutes longer, I started to leisurely get ready for my day. On most other days, mornings find me furiously stuffing books into my bag as I try to get out the door on time. This typical pattern makes today’s unhurried morning all the more unusual.
Once I got to class, I discovered that my day was only getting better: my class was cancelled because my professor was sick, (obviously her day wasn’t going quite as well as my own). This development left me with a good hour and a half before my next time commitment, so I had a croissant in the Den, (the campus snack shop, that is) and did a little reading.
College's Pace of Life
I love periodic breaks like that one that happen during a college day. I remember that last year, as a freshman, I was amazed by the different pace of life that college has in comparison to high school. Rather than sitting in classes for six solid hours, you have perhaps three classes interspersed with free periods. What a concept! With that hour you can get work done for next class, chat with friends, join a Frisbee game on the front lawn, take a catnap, or just sit and be.
That last option is one of my favorites; there are times when I feel like I am constantly on the move here at EMU. With a full credit load, 8.5 hours of work-study, Royals Society, Peace Fellowship, and Honors Committee, my time is often very regulated. However, I really enjoy the things that I am involved with at EMU so, at the end of the day, my commitments and my free time tend to balance out fairly well. And now that I’ve done a little writing, I think I’ll go enjoy this beautiful, sunny, laid-back day.
A Quick Disclaimer...
For those of you who may be looking at the posted date of this entry and wondering why I am writing about sunshine and warm weather on October 17th, I will admit that this entry should have been posted a week ago on the10th, when I, Michelle Kennel, actually wrote it.
Looking back on this entry, I am slightly jealous of my "last-week self" because today (the 17th) is rainy and cold. Tearing myself from my warm bed was difficult, and judging from the bleary looks of my classmates, I wasn't the only one to feel the strain. Oh well, hopefully we'll all be fully awake by the end of the day just in time to stay up late, oversleep, and start the cycle over again!
