The 34 or so people behind EMU’s well-run, well-maintained buildings and grounds are interesting folks.
Staff operates out of the Facilities Management office and warehouse located between Cedarwood residence hall and Parkwoods apartments.
Facility upgrades and energy consumption
Facilities Management staff work hand-in-hand with longtime-architect Troyer Group and local alumni-related building companies on facility upgrades and new projects. We’ve been pioneers in constructing energy-efficient buildings and installing innovative heating and cooling systems since the 1980s.
Our newest, green dorm Cedarwood set college precedent in 2011 when it received LEED “gold” certification, one of the highest environmental standards construction can attain, by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED-certified renovations to other residence halls were completed in 2011 and 2012, and we are currently planning an addition and renovation of Suter Science Center, which we anticipate will also be LEED certified.
Despite the renovations and additional building, EMU’s energy consumption has lowered. When checked in 2012, EMU was using almost half the amount of energy as most other institutions its size.
Anyone on campus in need of immediate assistance should dial 911 for police, fire, or medical response. Witnesses and victims of a campus crime or emergency, as well as anyone who is suspicious of people or situations on campus, should contact campus security at 4911 from a campus phone or 540-432-4911 from an off-campus phone.
In the residence halls, a residence director is on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies or incidents which occur on campus. The director can be reached at 476-4578.
