"the campus is alive"
Well, I've been here for quite some time now. I'm just starting to get the real feel of college life. The new change in my life is the fact that my bedtime has changed from 10 p.m. at home, to 1 p.m. here!
It takes a while to adapt to college life, but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of things. There are so many things to do each day that I find myself stretching for time. The professors are really helping me get into the swing of things. They are happy to help students with anything they may have questions about.
Now, college hasn't just been about school work -- the campus is alive with many activities. Right now the presidential debates are bringing the students together, as well as 'Take Back the Night,' a week full of events dealing with sexual assualt issues. I love all the events that deal with various issues -- it gives me a variety of things to do.
My favorite part about Harrisonburg is the location. We are near so many things! Last weekend my friend Anna took me to a Baltimore Orioles baseball game. While I was there I got a picture with Ivan Rodriguez. For all you baseball fans, that is a big deal!
I'm learning so much about the history of Virginia. I had no idea how much historical value this state has. As a history major this is definitely very exciting. I feel like in Iowa I was in my comfort zone; I pretty much knew everything about my hometown. But here I can expand on my knowledge, and get to know people from all over.
The hall activities are really fun, and I feel like I get to know the girls on my floor better. Last night we had a Mary Kay party. This was a nice way of taking a break from homework. We also have campfires with other halls. I feel like I can only grow here, and continue on my journey.
Last Sunday my friends and I went to a new church called Alethia. It was alot of fun to go to a new church, espeically a church with a punk band. I felt like I could learn more about God in a new and exciting way. This Sunday we will continue searching for our church.
I must say it is hard being so far away from home, but soon enough I will be home for fall break. I love it out here, but being away from my family is hard. Well, I'm going to take a nap now, something I've been longing for!
