"getting up for my 8 a.m. is a little rough"

It’s only been about three weeks of school and college life has been everything I’ve expected. I think I’m adjusting quite well. I’ve made a lot of friends, kept up with my school work, and have found time to just hang out! This first semester I’m taking Developmental Psychology, General Psychology, Biology, College Writing, and First Year Seminar, a class each first year student has to take. The work load has been manageable, sometimes being a little much, but nothing that I or anyone could not handle.

I love the class schedules too. Going to class, taking a two-hour break, going to class, eating lunch ... it’s been great having a schedule where you can get things done in between classes. My professors are already teaching me to be a better student in my work. The classes are definitely more difficult and different than any high school class, but I love it.

I’ve been waiting for my college career to start for a long time, and I’m very excited that I’m finally here. It’s a little hard getting to bed early in the dorms, especially in my hall. I’m a late night kind of guy though, so that part doesn’t bother me, but getting up for my 8 a.m. is a little rough. Although I manage to get up in enough time, I’ve found that I’m writing down and scheduling “nap time” on my daily planner!

I’m also finding myself busy with work most of my time. I don’t mind it though because I love my major, so the learning part is fun. I think that is very important while being in college. I’ve found that people who don’t enjoy what they’re studying have less motivation to get their work done!

Dorm life has been great. I’ve been blessed with the guys that I live around. We’ve all been getting a long great, and building awesome relationships. We hang out on top of the hill, which has a great view, go to IHOP real late at night for coffee, work out together, play soccer and football together, or just lay around a talk! It’s been really nice, and very helpful for building the relationships we have.

Overall, EMU has been great. Everyone has still been extremely respective and helpful. I can’t wait to see how the next month goes!
