Mud and movies
September 17, 2005
Today was quite a mix, an exciting, emotional, day. It seems like forever since I woke up this morning! Well, when I woke up, it wasn't so good. I felt almost sick-my allergies were acting up again, so I was really congested and achy. Last night was extremely hot and humid, one of those nights when I would love to be in an air conditioned dorm room. But, despite my little sick spell, I survived my two early-morning classes and managed to stay awake and alert enough to get through. After lunch, I slept from one to almost four, and then I felt SO much better.
It actually rained this afternoon! After almost three beautiful weeks(has it really been three weeks?), we had a little reality check with a nice little rain storm. Of course, we had to take advantage of this, so my friend Erica and I went out to play soccer in the rain! Needless to say, we attracted about twenty other people to the quad. Our little soccer game turned into a wrestling match, which turned into a full-scale mud fight. We got absolutely COVERED...and anyone who was involved was soaking wet and caked with mud ALL over by the end. Most of our time was spent pushing each other into a big muddy spot, and throwing or smearing mud all over everyone. As most activities go, we started to get tired of the mud, so we went and found some HUGE puddles out by the softball diamonds. We had a blast sliding all over the place and watching other people take their turns swimming through the puddles.
Laundry, showering, and cleaning up the messes in the bathroom took up most of the late afternoon and into the evening. After dinner, we went to see Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants-the Campus Activities movie of the weekend. I cried almost all the way through it-it was such a good movie, and it reminded me of my wonderful friends from back home...Kacie, Katie, Alena, and Alicia! It's always cleansing to have a good cry, and I would definately see that movie again! THEN, after the movie we went for a walk to the top of yet another Harrisonburg hill and watched the city. It was beautiful, and the time spent with friends was so good. I feel like I know so many people, but yet there are always things to find out and even more people to meet!
So, now it's two in the morning, and I have gotten absolutely NO work done today...but I have to say that I have no regrets. Every minute was well-spent. And sometimes it is good to have a day just to relax.
