Mark Wenger

Director of Pastoral Studies

EMU at Lancaster

“I envision non-traditional pastoral training where men and women can enter courses of study at the level and pace that fit their life situation and sense of God’s call to ministry. Opportunities for study and growth will span the spectrum from non-credit personal enrichment courses through accredited part-time college and seminary degree programs of pastoral preparation. I see congregation, conference, denomination, individual and academy all playing on the same team, pursuing Christ’s mission of grace and truth for the cosmos.”

Began service: July 2005

Mark and his family moved to Lancaster in June 2005 where he is serving as Director of Pastoral Studies for EMU/S at Lancaster. This position combines administration and teaching for the Preaching Institute, the STEP Program (Study and Training for Effective Pastoral Ministry), and for graduate level seminary courses in southeastern Pennsylvania. Prior to this appointment, Mark was a pastor for more that eighteen years in Pennsylvania and Virginia. His research and writing interests are in the areas of preaching and worship, particularly rites and ministries of healing. He and his wife Kathy attend James Street Mennonite Church; they have two young adult daughters Regina and Charlotte. He likes to sing, to talk politics and theology and do fix-up projects around the home.
