Coming to the Table is a program of the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding that explores the legacy of slavery and how to interrupt the intergenerational transmission of trauma related to slavery’s legacy. It works with direct descendants of those who were enslaved and slaveholders. It also works toward creating an approach to racial reconciliation applicable to communities facing harmful legacies.

POSITION: Program Associate for Coming to the Table project

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in sociology, peacebuilding, social work or related field.

Experience: Two years experience (professional or volunteer) with writing, event planning, and web-based social networking. Experience working with groups and leading meetings. Optional experience includes website maintenance, videography and photography.

Special Skills:Strong verbal and written communication skills, interview skills, public speaking, event planning, photography and videography experience. A basic knowledge of video editing software and web software are a plus. Web social networking competency and basic office management skills are required. Experience exploring the personal and societal impacts of the legacy of slavery in the United States, education in anti-racism and comfort dealing with highly emotional issues is ideal. Some travel will be required as well as periodically working in the evening and on weekends (approximately one weekend/month).

RESPONSIBILITIES: The position will work closely with the Program Director to organize events for people and communities that are exploring and working towards healing the legacy of slavery. Primary responsibility will be supporting the network of connected descendants already involved in CTTT and creating resources and connections to support newly exploring descendants. This position will facilitate on-going, on-line communities, and update the website with events video and other resources. A primary responsibility will be monitoring the site in order to maintaining a safe environment where people can share their stories.

POSITION DETAILS: 12-Month, Full-time grant funded (2.5 years) position. Anticipated salary range $29,000-$35,000 depending on education and experience.
