EMU Network Files Mapping Guide

This guide describes the steps necessary to access data stored on network drives from off-campus (EMU-owned and non-EMU-owned computers) or from on-campus (non-EMU-owned computers only). Please select your location below.

On-campus

Apple OS X

EMU-owned computers running Mac OS X should have should have shortcuts on the desktop. If they are not available or you are using a non-EMU-owned computer please see the following instructions.

  1. Download the Mac network drive mapping scripts.
  2. Double click the downloaded zip file to extract the scripts.
  3. Double click the script corresponding to the drive you want to access:

    • Home (P)
    • Department (G)
    • Shared Students (Z)
    • Shared FacStaff (Z)
    • Classdata (V)

    Note: The G drive will list all departmental drives you have access to, including those of student organizations.

  4. Enter your Royal username and password if prompted.

Windows

EMU-owned computers running Windows should automatically map the network drives that you have access to. For access from a non-EMU-owned computer please see the following instructions.

  1. Download the Windows drive mapping script.
  2. Double click the script to run it.
  3. Enter your Royal username and password, and click "ok". When the password prompt disappears your network drives will be available.

Note: The G drive will list all departmental drives you have access to, including those of student organizations.

Off-campus

All users can access data from off campus via the EMU WebVPN service. Mac OS X 10.7 users must first install Java.

  1. Browse to https://vpn.emu.edu. Click "yes" if prompted to run the application. There may be a delay while Java loads and the Cisco secure desktop program validates your system.
  2. Log in with your Royal username and password.
  3. Click "Browse Networks" in the left column if you cannot see the list of available network drives.
  4. Select your drive
    • Home (P:)
    • Department (G:)
    • Shared Students (Z:)
    • Shared FacStaff (Z:)
    • Classdata (V:)

    Note: The G drive will list all departmental drives you have access to, including those of student organizations.

  5. Enter your Royal username and password.

At this point you can navigate through the drive and find the files you want to edit. Use the arrows at the top of the directory listing to view any additional pages. Use the green "up" arrow to go up a folder level.

Click on a file to save it locally. After making changes you must upload the file or your changes will not be reflected in the network copy. To upload a file, click the green arrow pointing to the right. Browse to where you have saved your file locally and click open. Click "ok" to upload the file.
