The major in professional nursing leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in nursing and concentrates on nursing theory, evidence-based practice, policy, management, family, and community health. This interdisciplinary program takes a systems approach to the problems, principles and practices of today’s complex healthcare system, incorporating conceptual and theoretical knowledge with an understanding of the complex cultural environment. Cohorts of twenty nurses meet once a week for four hours. Evening cohorts begin in January and April and meet from 6 to 10 p.m. while the daytime cohort begins in very late August and meets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Applications can be submitted at any time, but cohorts fill very quickly. Study in this program exposes you to the knowledge and skills necessary for you to:
- Understand the changing nurse roles in community-based environments and institutional settings with the advent of managed care and integrated delivery systems.
- Apply skills and theories in the classroom and through your evidence-based research project
- Evaluate issues and concepts central to the practice of professional nursing through the perspectives of historical, cultural, biblical, and ethical standards.
If you have completed an accredited nursing diploma program/RN licensure, you may qualify to enroll. EMU at Lancaster’s RN to Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Adult Degree Completion Program is fully accredited, reasonably priced and accelerated. Application Process
- Contact the program representative who will provide you with information about the program and application materials.
- Submit a completed application with $25 fee to Eastern Mennonite University through the Lancaster office.
- Have official transcripts sent from all institutions you have attended after high school, no matter how long ago, to EMU at Lancaster (address below).
- Complete and submit a two-page writing sample and autobiographical outline.
- Develop an academic plan with the assessment counselor who will evaluate your transcript(s) and autobiographical outline.
- Complete a financial plan and appropriate applications.
- Attend the convocation meeting of your new cohort.
