The Sadie A. Hartzler Library is a quiet place to research and study. You can also access a computer lab, the information systems helpdesk, the digital media lab, and the Art Gallery.
Historians will want to check out the Menno Simons Historical Library on the third floor, a collection focused on Anabaptist and Mennonite groups and Shenandoah Valley history. The JAMAR classroom for the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding is also located on the ground floor.

The biology, chemistry, history, mathematical sciences and psychology departments are here, along with larger auditoriums used for some of the freshman classes, Suter Science Seminars and the weekly Campus Activities Council movie. The D.R. Hostetter Museum of Natural History is on the main floor, along with the Discovery Room, a hands-on activity room for hundreds of visiting elementary students each year.

The University Commons is a focal point on campus, housing three athletic courts, the campus bookstore, the Royals’ Den snack shop, and much more.
Student services located in the University Commons include the international student services office, multicultural services, campus ministries, health and wellness suite, career services, counseling services, university accord, housing and residence life and the physical education department.
The University Commons promotes health and fitness to the EMU community by providing programs and services such as the fitness center, recreational sports, health services and the athletics program.
The renovation of the Student Center has added new space for drama facilities, art galleries, and the visual art and communications department. The project has strengthened EMU’s academic program in theater, one of the university’s newest majors. The University Commons provides a centralized location for drama classrooms and offices, as well as EMU’s first facility designed specifically for stage productions.
