'Writer's Read' to Feature EMU Alum

Stephen Raleigh Byler HARRISONBURG, Va. — The language and literature department at Eastern Mennonite University will hold its second "Writers Read" program of the semester 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 21, in the Martin Chapel.

Stephen R. Byler, selected by Barnes & Noble for its "Discover Great New Writers" Winter 2002 program, will read from his first novel, Searching for Intruders, A Novel in Stories.

Byler, a Lancaster, Pa., native, earned a bachelor of arts degree in liberal arts and sociology from EMU in 1992. He studied philosophy at Princeton University, earned an M.A. in religion and literature from Yale and received an M.F.A. in fiction writing from Columbia.

He has worked as a radio announcer, a bankruptcy counselor and a fly-fishing guide.
