Updating Left Navigation
The left navigation menu (“left nav”) is accessible by clicking the nav page part on the section home page. The Filter setting for the nav page part should be set to Textile. To make a list item, simply use an asterisk followed by a space, followed by the link. See the image below for an example.
Nav links should always start with a slash
Links in the nav menu should be relative to the home page (/). To use the Cross-Cultural Program page pictured at right as an example, if you used a page-relative link to travel/ in your nav, it would work on the main cross-cultural page but would not work when the nav part was incorporated into child pages because the travel/ link would be relative to the current page.
Accordion or pop-out sub-menus
To create “accordion” sub-menus, simply use two asterisks under the single-asterisk menu item you would like the accordion sub-menu to be associated with. An example of this is also visible in the above illustration.
Child pages inherit parent nav
The “nav” page part applies not only to the page it is associated with, but all other child pages. So you will commonly see these on the section main pages, but on no other child pages.
If you’d like to set a different left nav for a sub-section of your site, simply create a new “nav” page part on the page where you would like this override to take place. All child pages of this page with overridden “nav” will inherit that new left-nav.
