EMU Jazz Sets Spring Break Tour
"EMU Jazz & Swing Sisters," a big band
ensemble at Eastern Mennonite University, will present programs in churches
and schools in five states during a mid-semester break tour.
The 24-member group, directed by Dr. Steve Sachs, professor
of music at EMU, will feature sacred hymn and spiritual arragements of
jazz compositions as well as big band tunes. The Swing Sisters, a women's
close-harmony vocal ensemble, will accompany some selections.
The itinerary follows:
- Feb. 23, 7 p.m., Otterbein United Methodist Church
(pre-tour concert), Harrisonburg;
- Mar. 2, 9:30 a.m., Central Mennonite Church worship
service, Archbold, Ohio;
- Mar. 2, 1:30 p.m., Central Mennonite Church concert;
- Mar. 2, 7 p.m., Clinton Frame Mennonite Church service,
Goshen, Ind.;
- Mar. 3, 9:45 a.m., Bethany Christian School chapel,
Goshen;
- Mar. 3, 7 p.m., First Mennonite Church concert, Bluffton,
Ohio;
- Mar. 4, 1 p.m., Central Christian High School assembly,
Kidron, Ohio;
- Mar. 4, 7 p.m., Hartville (Ohio) Mennonite Church
coffeehouse;
- Mar. 5, 7:30 p.m., Midway Mennonite Church concert,
Columbiana, Ohio;
- Mar. 6, 7:30 p.m., Petersburg (WV) High School concert;
- Mar. 7, 7 p.m., McCoy-McMechen Theater concert, Moorefield,
W.Va.;
- Mar. 8, 7:30 p.m., Kingview Mennonite Church concert,
Scottdale, Pa.;
- Mar. 9, 9:30 a.m., Kingview Mennonite Church worship
service.
EMU Jazz & Swing Sisters, formed in 1982, performs
regularly on campus, for churches, civic groups and school audiences and
goes on tour during spring break. The group's latest compact disc features
portions of its 20th annual concert performed Apr. 5, 2002.
