Environmentalist to Speak at EMU

Dr. Calvin DewittDr. Calvin Dewitt, an environmentalist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will present the annual Staley Lecture Series at Eastern Mennonite University, Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 19-20. He will speak three times on the theme, "Christian Reflections on Ecology."

Dewitt will speak in undergraduate chapel 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lehman Auditorium on "Earthkeeping in the Footsteps of Jesus" and at a dinner-lecture program 5:30 p.m. that day in the west dining room of the university cafeteria on "The Story of Waubesa Marsh: Interweaving Ecology, Theology and Stewardship."

He will conclude the series 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Martin Chapel with a message on "Biblical Foundations for Environmental Stewardship."

General admission to the dinner-lecture is $6. Admission to other presentations is free.

Dewitt is co-founder of the Evangelical Environmental Network and also director of the Au Sable Institute for Environmental Studies, an institute in Michigan that seeks to "bring healing and wholeness to the biosphere and the whole of Creation." He is also president of the Christian Environmental Council.

EMU has participated in the Staley Lecture Series since its inception in 1969. The Staley Foundation of Rye, N.Y., brings articulate Christian speakers to college and university campuses across the country.
