Hunsberger to Give Voice Recital

Matt Hunsberger Matthew W. Hunsberger, an Eastern Mennonite University staff member, will give a voice recital 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 in Martin Chapel of the seminary building at EMU.

Hunsberger, a baritone, will perform works of English and German composers, including two song cycles: Robert Schumann’s "Dichterliebe" (A Poet’s Love) and George Butterworth’s "A Shropshire Lad."

Other works will include "Erlkönig" by Franz Schubert, "Silent Noon" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and "O Ruddier than the Cherry" from the opera, "Acis and Galatea" by George Frideric Händel. "Silent Noon" will feature an appearance by local male a cappella ensemble, Sons of the Day.

Hunsberger, a 2002 EMU graduate, works with the physical plant, seminary and the auxiliary services departments of the university. He studies voice with Jennifer Cooper of the EMU music department, is music director at Zion Mennonite Church near Broadway and is a founding co-manager of Sons of the Day.

Admission to the program is free.
