Children's Choir Announces Auditions
The Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir (SVCC) will hold a final round of auditions for its 2007-08 year 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 for children in grades 3-8.
A few openings remain in the Concert Choir (ages 11-17, 70 members), the Treble Choir (ages 10-15, 40 members) and the Preparatory Choir (ages 8-11, 40 members).
Auditions will be held at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg and are by appointment only.
The ten-minute auditions will include pitch-matching, singing familiar songs, clapping and an interview. A prepared solo is not required. The audition is in a relaxed setting and parents are welcome to observe. A music teacher recommendation is required. Tuition assistance is available for choristers who need it.

The upcoming performing choir year includes a fall concert, two Christmas concerts with a jazz combo, a Christmas performance at Sunnyside Retirement Community, a tour to Charlotte, N.C., to sing with the Charlotte Children’s Choir and spring concerts.
This fall, the SVCC will release a new CD, "Christmas Joy," featuring last year’s Christmas concerts with the Washington Symphonic Brass of Washington, D.C.
The SVCC also has openings in its young children’s program for children in kindergarten through second grade. Joy Anderson, SVCC assistant director. teaches the Beginners, Explorers I and Explorers II classes. Class content includes music games, pitch matching, part singing and movement. Classes are held for ten weeks in the fall and spring and are non-auditioned.

Now entering its 16th year, the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir includes 230 children in three auditioned choirs and four young children’s classes. The choir staff includes Julia White, artistic director and founder; Joy Anderson, assistant director; Judy Leaman, manager; Maurita Eberly, principal accompanist; Yvette Peake, office assistant; and Marie Masincup, assistant accompanist.
