EMU Jazz Sets Mid-Semester Tour

EMU Jazz 2004"EMU Jazz & Swing Sisters," a big band and vocal ensemble at Eastern Mennonite University, will give programs in nine congregations and five schools in New York and Pennsylvania during the school’s mid-semester break.

The 23-member group, directed by Dr. Steve Sachs, professor of music at EMU, specializes in jazz arrangements of hymns and spirituals as well as ballad and swing tunes. The Swing Sisters - Katie King, Martha Sachs, Amanda Mazey and Michell Nafziger - provide close-harmony vocal accompaniment on some selections.

Feb. 29, 10:30 a.m., Lowville (NY) Mennonite Church; 7:30 p.m., Lowville Academy & Central School;
Mar. 1, 7 p.m., Elizabethtown (PA) Brethren in Christ Church;
Mar. 2, First Baptist Church of York (PA);
Mar. 3, 7:30 p.m., East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, Pa.;
Mar. 4, 8:15 a.m., Lancaster Mennonite High School;
Mar. 4, 7:30 p.m., Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, Chambersburg, Pa.;
Mar. 5, 2:15 p.m., Philadelphia Mennonite High School;
Mar. 5, 7:30 p.m.; Stumptown Mennonite Church, Bird-in-Hand, Pa.;
Mar. 6, 7 p.m., Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, Pa.;
Mar. 7, 10:15 a.m., Plains Mennonite Church, Lansdale, Pa.

The evening programs will have a small admission charge or a free-will offering.
