EMU Gives Service Awards, Cites Retirees

Faculty and staff saluted four colleagues who are retiring and cited more than 30 others for long years of service during the school’s annual recognition dinner held April 27.
The retirees are: Ray C. Gingerich, professor of theology and ethics, 27 years; Ervie L. Glick, professor of German, 17 years; John L. Horst, Jr., associate professor of physics, 40 years; and Carroll D. Yoder, professor of French and chair of the language and literature department, 32 years. They will retire at the close of the fiscal year June 30.
The four received engraved plaques and their choice of a cash gift or Boston rocker from President Loren E. Swartzendruber. They were also given special tributes by their respective departments.
Heading the list of service award recipients were John L. Horst, Jr., and Robert D. Yoder, professor emeritus of biology, with 40 years.
D. Charles Nesselrodt, structural services supervisor in physical plant, received a 35-year service certificate, and George R. Brunk III, seminary professor of New Testament, received a 30-year certificate.
Twenty-year service awards were presented to James R. Engle, seminary professor of Old Testament, and Ronald L. Stoltzfus, professor of business.
Fifteen years: David D. Alleman, print technician and EMU recycling coordinator; Linda L. Alley, administrative assistant, student life division; Spencer L. Cowles, associate professor of business; Connie G. Ebersole, accounts payable assistant; Barbara P. Fast, associate professor of art; Loretta K. Helmuth, secretary-receptionist, physical plant; Sharon M.D. Miller, Preparatory Music Program director; N. Gerald Shenk, professor of church and society, EMS; and Jennifer M. Ulrich, catalog librarian, Hartzler Library.
Ten years: David N. Alger, desktop support specialist, Information Systems; BonnaSue, director of the graduate counseling program; Mark A. Hogan, professor of teacher education; Daniel E. Marple, Sr., systems consultant, Information Systems department; Karen Moshier Shenk, regional director for development; Joanna S. Swartley, administrative assistant, Eastern Mennonite Seminary; Terry L. Whitmore, instructor in management and organizational development, Adult Degree Completion Program; Donnita K. Willliams, postal clerk; Mary E. Yoder, accounts receivable assistant, business office; and Ruth H. Zimmerman, co-director for administration, Conflict Transformation Program.
Fifteen persons who are leaving EMU for other pursuits were also recognized during the ceremonies.
