WEMC to Broadcast 'Democracy Now' Host's Address
WEMC 91.7 FM, will broadcast a recording of Amy Goodman’s recent talk in Harrisonburg at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19.
Goodman, host of the public radio program "Democracy Now!," spoke at Community Mennonite Church the evening of Sept. 4. Some 400 people attended her talk on the role of independent media in a democracy.
In her address, Goodman explores questionable relationships between politicians, the military, corporations and the media. She also relates both tragic and humorous stories from her own experiences as a reporter covering events in the U.S. and overseas.
She is also co-author with her brother and fellow journalist David Goodman of the recent book, The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers and the Media That Love Them. Publishers Weekly calls the book a "hard-hitting, no-holds barred brand of reporting."
"Democracy Now!" airs at 6 p.m. Fridays on WEMC radio.
WEMC, at 91.7 on the FM dial, is the oldest non-commercial radio station in Virginia, founded in 1955. The station airs a mix of classical, sacred/ choral, jazz and bluegrass music with world news and features from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.
