Children's Choir Releases Sixth Album
The Shenandoah Valley Children's Choir has released its sixth recording, "Winds of Peace."
The compact disc includes songs by the Preparatory Choir, Celah K. Pence, director; and the Treble Choir and Concert Choirs, Julia J. White, director. Accompanists include Maurita Eberly, piano; John Barr, organ; Jill Cockburn, flute; and Joan Griffing, violin.
Songs include "With A Voice of Singing," "All the Earth Sing Forth," "The Swing," "Where go the Boats?", "Gloria Tibi," "My Lord, What a Morning," "Laudamus Te" with violinist Joan Griffing; "Laudate Dominum" with soloist Annie Barnes, "Psalm 150" with organist John Barr; "Reel a Bouche" with David Landes, hammer dulcimer; "Song For the Mira" and "Winds of Peace" with flutist Jill Cockburn, "Yo Le Canto," "I Hear America Singing" with student director Rachel Bucher; "Cindy" and "This Train is Bound for Glory."
The recording, representing songs from the 2002-2003 season, was produced by Julia White and Joy Anderson and compiled by Bart Reardon, recording engineer at Electric Arts Studio in Singers Glen.
The album is available at the Eastern Mennonite University bookstore, from any choir member or by calling SVCC manager Judy K. Leaman at 540-432-4650.
The public is invited to attend a free dress rehearsal concert by the Concert Choir of the SVCC 7:40 p.m. Monday, Nov., 17, in Martin Chapel at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. The 70-voice choir, directed by Julia J. White, is preparing for a performance on Nov. 21 at the Virginia Music Educators Association Conference in Norfolk and a fall concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 23 in EMU's Lehman Auditorium.
