Wright to Lead Off Semester's 'Writers Read' Series
HARRISONBURG ? The language and literature department at Eastern Mennonite University will hold its first "Writers Read" program of the second semester 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the west dining room of the university cafeteria.
David Wright, who teaches writing and literature at Wheaton (IL) College, will read from his poetry at the dinner meeting.
A Midwest native, Wright began writing poetry as an undergraduate student at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. He did graduate studies at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., and at Loyola University of Chicago. He taught English for six years at Richland Community College in Decatur before joining the Wheaton faculty.
Wright?s poems and essays have been widely published in such places as "The Christian Century," "The Mars Hill Review," "The Midwest Quarterly" and "Green Hills Literary Lantern." He has written two poetry collections ? "Lines from the Provinces" (20002) and "A Liturgy for Stones" (2003). Several of his poems will appear in the forthcoming anthology, "A Capella: Mennonite Voices in Poetry" (University of Iowa Press, 2003).
Wright lives in the Chicago area with his wife and daughter and attends Lombard Mennonite Church.
