Wayla J. Chambo is a versatile, committed performer of new and experimental flute music alongside the traditional repertoire. Notable performances have included the Creative Experiments in Art and Technology (CEAIT) Festival and a celebration of George Crumb at 75, both at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) in downtown Los Angeles, and a concerto soloist performance with the UNC-Chapel Hill Symphony Orchestra. Wayla is currently a freelance performer and teacher based in Charlottesville, VA, where she has appeared recently with the Virginia Consort, the Oratorio Society of Charlottesville-Albemarle, the UVA New Music Ensemble, Noise in the System, and Du Ciel flute and harp duo. In October 2008 she performed the premiere of Steven Kemper’s At the Crossing of Five Paths at the Pixilerations festival in Providence, RI. In addition to teaching flute at Eastern Mennonite University and in the Preparatory Music program, Wayla is Flute Choir Director for the Youth Orchestra of Charlottesville-Albemarle and teaches privately in Charlottesville. She holds an MFA from California Institute of the Arts and a BM from UNC-Chapel Hill.
