All faculty (including adjuncts), staff, and students who park at EMU during normal business hours (Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) need to purchase a $60 parking permit to park in parking lots reserved for faculty, staff, commuters or residents. Faculty (including adjuncts) and staff have the option to request a free parking permit. The free permit is only valid in the North University Commons parking lot (north of the green line).
Students in the Adult Degree Completion Program or in graduate programs that meet in the evening need to register their vehicles at the beginning of each academic school year. These evening-only students will receive a “Commuter” parking permit at no charge.
Evening program departments will have students complete the vehicle registration forms and submit them to the physical plant office indicating the ADCP cohort number or the graduate program name that the students are involved in.
If you live in an EMU-owned house or EMU apartment, you must also register your vehicle and purchase a permit.
Registration must occur within one week of bringing a vehicle to campus. Vehicles can be registered at the physical plant office during normal operating hours (M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Only vehicles which have been registered and display the correct parking permit will be authorized to park in university parking areas from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Retired employees of EMU who routinely use the premises must register their vehicle at the physical plant office but will not be charged a parking fee.
Campus visitors who are on campus for something other than an organized sporting event or a major activity are asked to register their vehicles and utilize a temporary permit available at the physical plant office, admissions office, or information office.
How to register your vehicle
Students can register vehicles either during registration or by visiting the physical plant office.
Faculty and Staff: Registration and payroll deduction forms are available for all faculty and staff at my.emu.edu after login.
It’s important to register promptly: ticketing will begin seven days after fall classes begin.
Faculty and staff may opt out
Faculty and staff may register for a free parking permit. This parking permit is valid only in the University Commons north parking lot (north of the green line). It is NOT valid in ANY other faculty/staff (F/S) designated parking area.
Faculty and staff ticketed for an unregistered vehicle will only have the fine waived by purchasing a $60 parking permit.
Temporary handicapped parking permits
Temporary handicap parking permits may be issued to students upon confirmation from the Health Center or athletic trainer that confirms a student’s warranted need for a handicap space. These permits are to be used only on EMU property and are not acceptable under state law to be used off campus. They are available from the physical plant office during normal business hours.
If you, as faculty, staff or student, will not be on campus for spring semester, your parking permit may be returned to the physical plant office by January 15 for a refund of $30. The return will show up as a credit on your account.
