Focus of study
What makes you tick? Why do some individuals behave as they do? How does society affect us? Grapple with these questions in a program of study in psychology at Eastern Mennonite University. You'll investigate the wonders of human behavior with courses in abnormal, cognitive, developmental, personality and social psychology. Throughout the program you will apply your knowledge with practical experiences.
Counseling, teaching and research are some common psychology concentrations. Select the one that suits your interests and, with the assistance of your advisor, design learning experiences that best prepare you for your career goals.
Under the guidance of your instructor, you and your classmates will work on group projects and conduct psychological experiments. Learning experiences are carefully designed to help you master new material quickly and enjoyable.
Personal development is emphasized by the faculty. Instructors encourage personal Christian growth in self-awareness, social interaction and human service.
The psychology department uses innovative methods of instruction. In some courses, you may study at your own pace and take the appropriate computerized tests. Professors and proctors are always available to answer questions.
The department uses networked Macintosh computers for research, instruction and communications. Psychlearn, written by EMU faculty members, is an example of educational software currently used. It is distributed nationally by CBS College Publishers.
