Ministry Work
Have worked in urban ministry for about 20 years prior to Seminary as Program Administrator of a community centre and then as Program Coordinator for a Senior's Support program in the same centre. Also was actively involved in the Church, which was an integral part of the community.
Interests
I have a special interest in urban ministry and walking alongside those who have been marginalized by our society. I also enjoy team ministry as opposed to a solo pastor position.
EMS Comments
My experience at EMS has been excellent. Being an older adult returning to school, I felt like there was a lot of support for me in the midst of much change and transition in my life. I find the facutly excellent, faithful and passionate about the areas in which they teach. I also sense their willingness to grow in their effectiveness as a Seminary in order to respond to the changing needs of the church, our culture and the world. At the same time there is a commitment to remain firmly rooted in Jesus Christ as our Lord, our model and guide as we work at living out God's calling on our lives.
Favorite Course
Clinical Pastoral Education was the most practical and growing experience for me personally. I not only grew in my ability to walk with people in their life experiences, but it was an excellent time of getting to know myself and how I function in life and in ministry.
Thoughts for Someone in My Position
I recognize that I had a lot of questions about whether coming to Seminary at mid-life was the "right thing to do." Now that I have completed my time, I am grateful beyond words for the opportunity to have stretched myself and am looking forward to new ministry opportunities that will open up because of this education and training. I am glad that I listened to the wisdom of others and to my own internal nudgings of the Spirit's care and leading in my life.
