Calling

For many years I have felt a call on my heart to enter pastoral ministry. I've spent many years either ignoring, explaining away, running, or wrestling with that call. Several years ago this call seemed to occupy my entire spiritual life and I realized that if I didn't process the call I'd never have inner peace knowing that I turned my back on what God desired for the remainder of my life. My submission to this call required me to subordinate my business, my personal goals, my plans for early retirement and anything else that might stand in the way. Finally I reached the moment where I gave everything over to God's will; let the cards fall where they will I had to follow this call. I processed this call with my pastor, the elder board and then the congregation and then applied at EMS. It's been three years since I made that decision and I've never been happier. God has used many people to affirm, support, and encourage me throughout this process of attaining a seminary education.

I've always envisioned serving as a pastor in mid-sized, somewhat rural congregation.

My time spent here in this rich community will always be viewed as a very formative time of my life. Each professor brings unique qualities to the classroom setting where we as students are offered valuable insights and experiences. As I stand at the threshold of graduation I realize that each professor has invested a significant amount of themselves into equipping students for future ministry.

Thoughts for Someone in My Position

If you are feeling a call on your heart for ministry but seem to be encountering obstacles--let the call stay with you, begin to take steps to process it, talk to people, and contact the seminary. God is faithful and will provide a means for that call to be satisfied--I promise.
