Barista Job Description

A Barista is someone who works in a coffeehouse, preparing and serving drinks and other food items. Common Grounds barista are responsible for consistently producing quality drinks and other menu items. Attention to detail, ability to take initiative, having a strong work ethic, possessing good customer service skills and being responsible are all important characteristics for this position.

Common Grounds serves the students, faculty, and staff of the EMU campus, along with members of the greater Harrisonburg community. It is a place where people come to relax, socialize, enjoy events and dialogue on issues. Therefore it is important that staff provide an inviting, clean, safe and friendly atmosphere for all.

This job includes:

• Preparing and serving menu items
• Opening and closing the facility
• Stocking supplies
• Cash register operation
• Customer relations
• Light cleaning
• Room setup

Other things to know:

• We are open on weekends and late nights
• We have only non-workstudy positions available
• There will be times you will be working by yourself
• Pay is $7.25/hr
• You will be evaluated on your performance by a supervisor
