Summer 2009 Classes
- Fitness Yoga Mon 12:00-12:45pm, July 6 - August 10 (6 weeks)
This class will offer strength, as well as flexibility and endurance. Class members will improve "functional fitness"--your physical ability to meet the challenges of everyday life. The class will work through a full range of motion using class members' own body weight. Although you don't need any experience, be prepared for a bit more challenge than the YogaFlex class. Modifications will be offered to fit every level. Dress comfortably. Taught by Jennine Carrier. - Yogalates 1 & 2 Tues & Thurs 5:15-6:15pm, July 7 - August 13 (6 weeks)
Do you feel the need to de-stress, improve self-awareness and be more at peace? Would you like to gain muscular strength, tone and flexibility? Yogalates will integrate the ancient art of yoga and the twentieth century philosophy of pilates. This class is for all levels of experience, understanding that each person works at his/her own limits. Taught by Jennine Carrier. - Aikido Mondays 6:30-8:00pm, May & June only
Instructor Doris Martin says, "Aikido provides an aerobic workout as it stretches and tones the body and supports a mind-body connection. The practice of Aikido also provides a rich metaphor for how to live in relationship to others and the environment. Aikido principles of do no harm, of moving from one's center, staying relaxed and focused in the midst of conflict, understanding your 'opponent' and extending 'ki' or 'energy' are valuable lessons for any context."
The Fitness Center offers a variety of classes in the Group Exercise Room. Classes are open to EMU students, faculty, staff and community members with a Fitness Center membership. Cost per class varies. For more information on classes contact the Fitness Center at (540) 432-4341, or email .
