Soccer Rules
Rec Sports soccer will be governed by the NCAA rules with the following exceptions:
1. A team consists of seven players (6 and a goalie).
2. Four field players and a goalie must be present to begin a game. With less
than five players a warning will be given at five minutes and the game will
be forfeited at ten minutes.
3. A game will consist of 2 twenty-minute halves, and a 5-minute halftime. The
clock will not stop during the half.
4. If a game ends in a tie, there will be a shoot-off to determine the winner.
Five players from each team will shoot from the penalty mark. If the game is
still tied, there will be a sudden death shoot-off.
5. Substitutions may be made only during a dead ball.
6. The first team listed on the schedule is the home team and needs to wear
white shirts. Gray shirts will NOT be permitted.
7. If a team forfeits three games during the year it will be removed from the league.
8.
The officials and Rec Sports Staff will evaluate each team at the end of the game for sportsmanship. If a team receives two poor evaluations during the season it will be removed from the league. Two unsatisfactories will count as one poor.
Definition of terms
1. Kick-off: On the kick off, once the whistle has been blown, the ball
may be passed in either direction. The kick-off in the center of the field is
an indirect kick
2. Corner Kick: A corner kick will be awarded to the attacking team when the
entire ball passes beyond the goal after the defending team last played or touched
the ball. Defending team players shall be at least 10 yards from the ball until
it has been kicked. After the corner kick, any player may receive the ball except
the one who executed the corner kick. The kicker must wait until another player
has touched the ball before he/she can tough the ball a second time.
3. Free Kick: Free kicks shall be classified INDIRECT (from which a goal may
not be scored unless the ball is played or touched by another player of either
team) on all penalties, unless a penalty kick is awarded.
Indirect Free Kicks are awarded for:
¢ Handball.
¢ Holding an opponent.
¢ Pushing an opponent.
¢ Striking or attempting to strike an opponent.
¢ Jumping at an opponent.
¢ Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent.
¢ Tripping an opponent.
¢ Charging an opponent from behind.
¢ Carrying the ball outside of the penalty area by goalie.
¢ Player playing the ball a second time on kick-off before another player
has
¢ The ball not being kicked forward on a penalty kick.
¢ Slide Tackling
¢ Intentional pass back to the goal keeper (using you legs).
¢ Goalkeeper delay of the game by holding the ball longer than six seconds.
" The above (except the last two) will cause a penalty kick if they occur
in the box or if the official deems the play as dangerous
" Indirect free kick will be awarded to the opponents from the spot of
the foul.
Penalty kicks- awarded when a penalty takes place in the penalty area.
Goal kicks- awarded when offense kicks the ball over the offensive goal line.
Offsides - There are no offsides in 7v7.
Throw-ins
1. A throw-in shall be awarded to a team when the opposing team last
plays or touches the ball before the entire ball passes beyond the touch line
(side line).
2. If a player is inbounds and plays a ball beyond the touch line, the ball
is out of bounds. A player out of bounds can legally play a ball, which is on
the field of play.
3. A player who is facing the field of play and has both feet on the ground
outside the touch line shall throw the ball in any direction from the point
where it crossed the touch line. The thrower shall use both hands with equal
force and shall deliver the ball from behind and over the head in one continuous
movement. If the ball fails to enter the field of play, it shall be re-thrown.
4. Throw-ins are awarded to the opponents from the spot of the foul.
5.After the throw-in, either team may play the ball. The thrower shall not play
the ball a second time before it has been touched or played by another player.
Miscellaneous Guidelines
1. A yellow card will be issued for unsportsmanlike conduct or for dangerous
play. A player shall be removed from the game for three minutes if he/she receives
a yellow card. The player must report to the rec sports staff member who will
time the penalty. The team will play short until the player may return to the
game.
" Unsportmanlike conduct includes profane language, taunting the opposing
team and verbally abusing an opponent or official.
2. A red card is given on the second offense and the player is ejected from
the game. Any player receiving a red card must report to the Intramural Office
before being eligible for the next scheduled game. A red card is like receiving
a second yellow card and the team must play down one player for the remainder
of the game.
3. Referees and the Intramural Staff reserve the right to dismiss players from
the game site for disruptive conduct after adequate warning has been given.
4. There is no slide tackling allowed
5. There may be only three varsity or ex-varsity players on a team. Only two
of those can play at one time (This includes penalty kicks which are used to
break ties). An ex-varsity player is defined as anyone who has played in at
least one varsity game in the last five years at the college level. If a team
plays three at one time there will be a five minute penalty where two of the
varsity players must leave the field and may only be replaced during that time
by one non-varsity player. If it occurs during the penalty kicks at the end
of the game the offending team will forfeit the game.
6. The goalie may not drop kick, punt or throw the ball over mid-field. However,
he/she may place the ball on the ground and kick it as far as he or she wishes.
. Blood Borne Pathogen Policy- any player who sustains an injury where bleeding
or oozing occurs must leave the field. The bleeding must be stopped and the
area completed covered before the individual is allowed to reenter the game.
The Intramural Staff person must clear the individual before he/she resumes
play. If the uniform has become contaminated with blood, it must be changed
before the player reenters the game.
