EMU makes available a variety of living arrangements in an attempt to meet the developmental needs of students. There are exciting changes happening on campus beginning in fall of 2008. We are building a new residence hall to replace Oakwood, the all male residence hall that was built in 1969. The construction will begin in August and the new hall will be occupied in fall of 2009.

TYPES OF ROOMS
Single
Rooms:
Single rooms are available on a limited basis as space allows. A
charge is assessed for the beneift of a single room. Specific rooms
are designated as single rooms and are the only rooms guaranteed
to remain single occupancy for the entire year. (First year students
will only be assigned to these in special circumstances agreed to
by the Director of Housing & Residence Life.) Students who sign
up in a double occupancy room but wish to live alone are not guaranteed
a single room. The Housing Office reserves the right to assign a
roommate to such a student if necessary. Entering transfers may
request single rooms if available. Students sign up for these rooms
in the housing lottery.
Double
Rooms:
Rooms designed for two persons. Students who do not request a roommate
will be assigned via a simple computer program matching interests
and qualities. Should you know another entering student, write their
name on the Housing Interest Form. That student
should also write your name on their Housing form AND have paid
their tuition deposit before you will be assigned as roommates.
First year or transfer students may be assigned with another first
year, transfer, returning, or entering international student participating
in the Intensive English Program. We do attempt to place you with
another person whom you request; however, placement is not guaranteed
depending on tuition deposit dates.
Suites:
This option would be available to entering students 20 years or
older. Apartment-style units available in Northlawn, Parkwood Apartments and Hillside Suites. Units feature: living area,
dining/kitchen area, 2-4 bedrooms, and 1-2 bathrooms. Contact the
Office of Housing and Residence Life for more details. These units
are not automatically assigned but available by application only.
