Neglected diseases are traditionally considered
problems of the developing world. However, because
of inc reased travel and human movement, antibiotic
resistance, and human changes to the environment, many of these diseases have spread beyond their historical borders. We will discuss dengue and cutaneous leishmaniasis, their global impact, and the challenges they pose.

Dr. Vaidyanathan is the Associate Director of Vector Biology and Zoonotic Diseases at SRI International, Center for Advanced Drug Research. He is an entomologist at heart with expertise in virology and parasitology. He was born in India, grew up in the U.S., completed his Ph.D. in Israel and his postdoctoral training in France, before returning to the U.S. in 2003.
