Theater - Into the Woods

Where University Commons, 170, MainStage Theater

Duration 3 hours

EMU Theater presents the blockbuster musical Into the Woods with book by James Lapine and music by Steven Sondheim. A winner of multiple awards (Tony Awards for best book and score, and Drama Desk Awards for outstanding musical, book and lyrics) this musical cleverly intertwines the plots of several fairy tales, taken mostly from the Brothers Grimm. In a departure from the standard story line, the musical follows these characters to explore the consequences of their wishes and quests. The main characters are from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Cinderella and others. The plot is woven together by an original story involving a childless baker and his wife on a quest to begin a family, and their interaction with a Witch who has placed a curse on them. Oh, and there’s a giant.

Performances for Into the Woods are scheduled in the MainStage Theater at 7:30pm., April 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12, plus a matinee performance on Sunday, April 6 at 3pm. Performances run approximately three hours with an intermission.

Reserved tickets are $15 for adults ($17 at the door), and $12 for seniors & non-EMU students ($14 at the door) and are available through EMU’s Box Office at 540-432-4582 or www.emu.edu/boxoffice. Group rates are available.
